Help, experiences with Cheap Tickets and Hotel Metro

Has anyone used Cheap Tickets for your hotel and airfare? I think I got a good buy for hotel Metro and airfare for this late date. We were planning on leaving this Sat. $844 from Columbus,OH. I just get really nervous about doing stuff over the net and not with someone in person. Also we can get the shuttle from the (JFK)airport $17 per person.Any thoughts on this? I read some reviews on Hotel Metro, most were good. We have stayed at the Edison and Residence in the past. Both of those trips were taken care for me by a tour company, but this time I%26#39;m on my own. Thanks for all your help.

The best nightly rate I could find was $257 on Orbitz. You don%26#39;t indicate how many nights you are planning on staying in New York, but if you are staying at least 2 nights paired with a round trip flight (the best I could find was one into LaGuardia on Delta for $174 per person) the best I could find was a total of $862. So, you%26#39;ve got a little bit of a savings (or a LOT of savings if that includes more than 2 nights%26#39; stay).

I%26#39;m not sure what you mean by ';the shuttle'; from JFK. Do you mean a shared van, like Super Shuttle? For a little bit more, you can take a taxi which will get you to your hotel a lot quicker.

As far as booking through Cheap Tickets, they are an established booking service. However, we recommend the following to everyone who books through a 3rd party:

Spend less than a dollar (or, if you have nationwide cell coverage, no money at all) and call the hotel and confirm your accommodations. If you have any special requirements like non-smoking or a particular arrangement of beds, confirm that as well. Lastly, if you are arriving after 4 pm, be sure to let the hotel know of your late arrival. In my experience, it is better to ask open-ended questions like: ';Are you holding a smoking or non-smoking room for us?'; rather than ';...and that%26#39;s a non-smoking room, right?'; because sometimes, the person answering the phone is doing a lot of things at once and tends to say ';Yes'; even though he or she isn%26#39;t really looking carefully at your records. So, basically, ask them what they have on your record. Don%26#39;t tell them what they should have.

Congrats on a great rate! Have a wonderful vacation.

You got excellent advice above. I%26#39;ll just add that site59.com is a site I%26#39;ve heard has GREAT last minute air/hotel packages and you should check there too if you haven%26#39;t already purchased this. I think , depending on how many nights you%26#39;re staying (you don%26#39;t say) you could get a better hotel. The Metro hotel is fine. It%26#39;s nicer than the Edison and maybe not as nice as the Residence Inn which is pretty new. It%26#39;s a bit further from TImes Square than either of the other hotels you%26#39;ve used. (It%26#39;s nearer Penn Station and Macy%26#39;s) I%26#39;d probably prefer trying to negotiate a price with the hotel directly and not buying a package, but if you can%26#39;t be bothered, don%26#39;t worry. BUT, you should know that the pkg. price might not include:

hotel taxes which in NYC are high--about 15% of the price

cheap tickets might charge some processing fees

Do NOT use Super Shuttle airport transfer. They%26#39;re awful. Either take a taxi which will cost $55-60 for up to 4 people or you can use the Airport Express bus to Port Authority for $15/person and then a taxi or subway the short distance from there.

Stayed in Hotel Metro in Nov 2003. Fab location at the end of the block one way was macys - at the other end Empire sate and 5th Ave. Staff were helpful, nice complimentry limited breakfast, rooms were a bit dark and dated but very clean, though to be honest we only splept and showered in there!

Would of booked to go there again when we go in June but came out very very pricey so chosen Casablanca.......will go and have a drink on the rooftop bar though!
