Edison Hotel, New York

Thinking of taking mother-in-law to New York for 75 birthday and looking for a cheapish deal in August. Been looking at Edison Hotel Nr Times Square. Anyone any info?

Never been to New york and a bit worried.

Edison Hotel, New York

WORRIED about what?

I%26#39;ve stayed at the EDISON several times, great location, clean rooms, good basic lodging.

Poppa

Edison is fine, nice hotel, friendly staff, nice size rooms and the location is perfect 2 steps from times square. The breakfast in the cafe is great to

August is generally a less expensive time for hotels and while the Edison is fine, you should be able to get something nicer for such a special birthday. What price are you seeing for the Edison, what%26#39;s your budget and what are your dates?

I%26#39;ll second what Poppa said! I%26#39;ve stayed at the Edison twice and will be back there in June! The rooms are clean and comfortable, some say they%26#39;re a bit small but i only use them for sleeping in so that doesn%26#39;t matter! Love The Rum House as well....

Hi nywhiz

Saw Edison Hotel on Globespan website. It was about 拢500 each for 4 nights 27th August. Can you recommend another hotel?

拢500 each? Are there just 2 of you? Assuming it%26#39;s just the 2 of you and that%26#39;s double occupancy for one room, that means 拢1000 or $1968 at current exchange rate. $1968 divided by 4 means $492/night??? Unless it includes airfare, that%26#39;s outrageously expensive for any hotel in August, but especially a budget hotel. You could stay in the poshest hotel in town end of August for that price. This is a classic case of why looking at prices per person is a bad idea, at least in the US where room prices are for rooms NOT by the person. If your husband is coming too and there are 3 of you traveling, the price is even worse. Maybe it%26#39;s for 2 rooms? Please help me here. ;)

So looking on quikbook.com for cancelable options (since I think you could find some great deals closer to your trip on travelzoo.com) if you want something good but budget, the Salisbury hotel has a double double (2 double beds) for $184/night or a total for 4 nights for up to 3 people of $736 plus tax or about 拢430 for 2 or 3 of you! This is a book now pay later price so it%26#39;s totally cancelable. The Salisbury is in midtown not far from Central Park and within a reasonable walk to Times Square. An upgrade to a one bedroom suite there is $240/night, still almost half of what you were thinking of paying for the Edison.

The Excelsior Hotel is on the upper west side across from the Mus. of Nat. History and is $190/night for a double double

The Millenium UN Plaza is a quite posh hotel with a rooftop swimming pool (enclosed) and great city views from most rooms and that%26#39;s $199/night for a standard room with 2 twin beds or a$229 for a superior (also on quikbook) and also cancelable.

There are dozens of other good options on quikbook that would still cost half of the cost you got for the Edison. Where is that price from??? Even if I misunderstood what you quoted and it was 拢500 for both of you for the 4 nights and that includes taxes, that%26#39;s still about $209/night and several of these are less and nicer (imo).

I apologize you did say the website (which I%26#39;m not familiar with) and maybe the price does include airfare. I%26#39;d suggest you have a look and see what price you can find for airfare separately and consider not buying a package.

I stayed at the Edison Last July. The location is amazing as it%26#39;s right in Times Square. The rooms were a little small and dated but who stays in their rooms when in New York City? It was clean and comfortable. We ate our breakfast every morning in the downstairs cafe, which was fantastic. If you want to stay in the heart of New York then definately stay here. Well worth it. Enjoy xxx

I haven%26#39;t stayed at the Edison in a few years, but it was clean and decent when I did. The coffee shop is a piece of Broadway history. It%26#39;s known affectionately as the ';Polish Tea Room'; to differentiate it from the more upscale ';Russian Tea Room.'; Certain tables are reserved for some of the real powers of Broadway theater.
