restaurant recap - recent trip

Here%26#39;s a recap of where we ate and what we thought. Hope this helps in your trip planning. I know I gleaned a lot of information from this forum and I am happy to share my new found knowledge an opinions with others.

Chat %26#39;n Chew - dinner (16th and 5th). This was a serendipitous find. (many thanks to our hotel general manager for this recommendation) Absolutely fun, relatively inexpensive and great food. Highly recommend.

Pastis - brunch on Sunday 3/30, dinner on Wednesday 3/28. Fabulous food and service. Place loud, crowded and a great people watching place. If you want a quiet intimate meal this is not the place for you. It%26#39;s on little 2 west 12th and 9th in the meat packing district.

West Bank Cafe - late dinner on 3/27 on 42nd and 9th (theater district/times square). Excellent food and service. Highly recommend. I did make a reservation for 10:15 pm (after seeing Wicked) but I think we could have walked in and got a table without one at this time.

Ollie%26#39;s Noodle Shop - late dinner on 3/25. Scallion pancakes and pork dumplings were excellent! Service was good and fast. The chicken dish seemed slightly undercooked and I would not recommend ordering chicken. Relatively inexpensive for NYC. They don%26#39;t take reservations and we didn%26#39;t have to wait for a table.

Mesa Grill - lunch 3/26 (5th and 15th). Excellent food and service. Rough cut tuna nachos for appetizer, sixteen spice chicken entree and spice rubbed new york strip steak all outstanding. Highly recommend.

Keen%26#39;s Steakhouse - dinner 3/24 (36th and 6th). Ridiculously huge portions. (way too much food seems rather wasteful). Fun ambiance and lots of people watching and activity, but service was spotty at best. Would not recommend because although meal was delicious, for the extremely high price service should match food.

Grimaldi%26#39;s - Brooklyn lunch 3/29. This was low-key and fun. Loved the pizza. But even a small is huge for two people. Great service and friendly! My daughter and I loved the pizza and would recommend it, but if you are looking for a very deep dish/thick crust style pizza this is not for you.

Tony%26#39;s DiNapoli - lunch 3/28 and late night snack on 3/24. on 43rd and 7th. Large family style portions. One order of ravioli and one salad was more than enough food for the two of us. Their cheesecake is yummy too! (we had that for our late night snack on Sat night). Definitely would recommend.

La Parisienne - 57th and 7th. Absolutely wonderful cheesecake. very small place and friendly people. My reuben was ok. Not the best I%26#39;ve ever had, but not the worst. My daughter%26#39;s hamburger was very, very good. Best pickles and best cheesecake I%26#39;ve ever eaten, bar none. No wait, not a reservation type place. Kind of like a diner.
