Is walking around with ipod allowed?

Read in a newspaper recently that u can get fined for walking the streets of NY with ur ipod on or on the phone. Is this true?

I dont intend to really use ipod on the streets but it would b nice to b able to use it in central park.

Sorry if this is a daft question!!

NOt daft at all,

I can%26#39;t imagine that it is not allowed.

If it were most of us NY%26#39;ers would be fined or in jail or something.

I walk around all the time with my IPOD.

Just be careful with it on the subway. I%26#39;ve never had a problem or seen anything happen. There are reports however of them being stolen on the subway. The earphones make them very identifiable.

This is something that has been proposed as a law but as yet not actually passed. Furthermore, the law would only apply when people are in the act of crossing the street; the rest of the time you would be free to wear an iPod, talk on the phone, etc. More here:

Thanks for the advice, im pleased to hear i can use it freely!

If this were true and extended to cell phones you would be walking around Manhatten by your self!

Some do-gooder politician mentioned this, must have been a slow news day.

Bring you I-Pod and enjoy.

Poppa

The reason this law was proposed is that a relatively large number of people in NYC (can%26#39;t remember the exact number) have recently been struck and killed by vehicles (in several cases, garbage trucks) while crossing the street while listening to an ipod or similar device. The intent is to save lives.

In my neighborhood, walking around listening to an ipod or speaking on a cellphone seems to be mandatory.

QQ2: yeah that was what the article was reporting about in my newspaper, the dangers of doing so.

It will never happen. If they outlaw iPods, they%26#39;ll have to outlaw Blackberrys - and the masters of the universe will never allow such a thing
