Getting to River Cafe across Brooklyn bridge

We%26#39;re leaving on the Sunday evening but have managed to scrape into the River Cafe for a long lunch. I%26#39;ve got my in-laws (they are 60) with me, but fancied getting a cab to the bridge and walking over.

Questions:- is this sensible (given we have to be dressed smartly apparently), how long will it take, and how do I get to River Cafe if we walk from Manhattan side to Bronx side (we will get cab straight to aiport after lunch)?

If you are leaving to the airport from The River Cafe, won%26#39;t you have your luggage with you?

Then you will need a taxi to get there.

Also, RC is in Brooklyn, not The Bronx.

The better view is had while walking towards, not away from, Manhattan. You might consider walking back instead of over there.

The Brooklyn Bridge station of the #4, #5, and #6 trains is directly opposite the entrance of the walkway, and it is certainly easy enoughto take the subway down there. If you wanted to, though, I supose you could be dropped off by a cab. If you walk back instead, and decide to take a cab back to the hotel instead of teh subway, the best place to wait for one is by the traffic light in front of the Municipal Building on Centre Street -- the cabs come over the Brooklyn Bridge empty, and then get stopped by the light, so they are easy to find.

For walking directions from the RC (which, as noted, is in Brooklyn -- after all, there is a reason it is called the BROOKLYN bridge!) to the Bridge, you can look here:

It is a little over a mile from one end of the Bridge to another -- how long does it take you to walk a mile?

Thanks guys - completely wasn%26#39;t thinking about our cases (duh!) and clearly to combine the advice it might be best to get cab to River cafe and then either walk along the bridge (maybe not all the way) before or after lunch....thanks Lee
