Tours

Our TA has ben trying to push open top bus Tours (Greyline?)on to us for our visit next week...

The tours include passes for a couple of attractions such as TOTR and are hop on hop off including night tours for 120 dollars per person.

I am more for getting on the underground/subway which is what I do on most city trips..but the lady wife thinks it may be better to do the bus.

Some one said on this forum that the traffic is very slow and therefore tour buses are also...we have limited time..

So which do you guys recomend?

Tours

I think for $120 I would tell her a firm NO and get cabs. Even including Top of the Rock which is under $20 each I think it is way too expensive. If there are 3 of you your talking $360 You can get lots of cab rides for that. Part of the New York experience is standing on the kerb yelling for a cab. Just tell your wife that with what you save she could get her fake tan.

Tours

The value may be good but a good reason to say no is the weather report. Open top tours in cold wet weather is a bad idea. Go to wunderground.com and look at the trip planner on the bottom of the page. If you want to do an overview tour (which is a good idea for some) do

nypartyshuttle.com or

kingofnyc.com

My recommendation is that if you are used to hopping on the subway/underground/metro when you travel, by all means do it here. Get yourself some MetroCards to zip around town with, and when you are not in the mod to do that grab a taxi with all that money you saved for the unnecessary tour bus.
