I would like to visit some smaller galleries when visiting NY in June / July with a view to possible purchase of some art (photography or painting) for my home as a memory of the trip.
Can anyone recommend an area which might have some smaller galleries?

SOHO has many galleries. All you have to do is walk around and you will come across them.
The Fuller Building on 57th and Madison is a beautiful building that has many galleries in it.
