What attracts Irish students to Montauk?

Just curious.

Always reading posts about guys/girls looking for summer lodging and work in Montauk.

Don%26#39;t know what the attraction is, considering all the other places in the country/world.

Just a common spot where all want to meet up to work and play for the summer?

Sometimes i ask myself that same question! ha!

I think that they come to Montauk because it%26#39;s a lot of fun and there is always tons of jobs. Plus montauk is known as a drinking town and everything is pretty much in walking distance of one another. And you can%26#39;t beat the beach!

FYI- I live near Ocean City, Maryland and we have the same postings here. I guess any summer destination where there is an influx of tourist assures them of work. They do not need a car here either- all walkable or the dollar shuttle up and down the resort.

Then I guess the students are already here (in the USA)?

I had the impression they were in school in Ireland, and for some reason flocked to Montauk (spending god knows on airfare) to get a summer job and then go back when school starts again.

OK, I get it now.

Makes more sense since Montauk is a big seasonal tourist attraction....plenty of summer jobs.

Another reason why Irish students are popular workers at tourist resort areas is that the summer tourist season lasts well into September, but Colleges begin classes the second week of August, and most high schools now start classes the last week of August. That leaves the employers at these resorts short-handed the last part of the season.

Many of the Irish workers here at there resorts are on their gap-year, between lower school and college.

Or at least that is what someone told me.

Yes Ireland has long summer holidays (2 months in primary/elementary, 3 months in secondary and 4 months in college). And also Ireland/Irish people are obsessed with American culture and people (and vice versa!!!)
