Walking from MSG to Rockefeller Center at night

After a concert at MSG Theater, how far of a walk is it to Rockefeller Center? (Hotel) Using Google maps, it%26#39;s looks like a fairly long walk. Would it be ok (safe) to walk from MSG to Hotel around 11pm or is it to long of a walk?

If we were to walk, where would be a good place for a drink along the way (Middle age couple - late 40%26#39;s early 50%26#39;s)

I guess you locals probably hate hearing all these ';is it safe'; questions, but here in Pittsburgh, I wouldn%26#39;t be wanting to walk in certain areas of down town at night

Walk up 7th into Times Sq and hang a right to go back to Rockefeller center. You should be fine going on a main route. esp on a weekend night. It might take longer to get a taxi in the taxi queue at MSG than it will take to walk it back. There will be alot of people still out in Times Sq after the theaters get out and they head for food, etc. Shops in Times Sq are open til 11 and midnight.

Just a personal preference..you can always wait in the taxi queue if you want to taxi it back.

Thanks :) We would prefer to walk if we could. It just looked like a long walk on Google Earth. Still looks like a 50/50 shot on rain for that night though (April 18th)

You will be walking from about 34th street to 50th street, and a couple of avenues over. Probably a nice 20-30 minute walk, but I would also say very safe. Do walk up 7th avenue, do not walk up 8th avenue.

I walk all over the place when I visit NYC. Around 11 PM from MSG to Rockefeller Center sounds very reasonable and safe to me. Have fun!

As previously stated, this is about a 20 minute to a half hour walk (leisurely), and it is in a pretty safe area of town. Obviously, use common sense. Seventh Ave is generally crowded after a concert lets out, so I%26#39;d walk up Seventh until you get into the 40s and then go east. The cab line after a show is usually a mess. If you did decide to get a cab you might be better off walking on 34th St. to 6th Ave. and catch one going uptown on 6th.

As far as a drink along the way... I would highly recommend the Blue Bar or Lobby Bar at the storied Algonquin Hotel (44th St. between 5th and 6th). Here%26#39;s their website:

Have fun!

We just returned from NYC and had a Hotel close to MSG. We never once felt unsafe walking in that area or any other area for that matter. I would recommend walking as much as you can. There is so much to see when you walk. I found that a 30 min. walk always went by very fast because of all the sights, and sounds. We must have walked 20 miles in the 4 days that we were there. We took the subway a few times but I prefered walking. You miss so much underground.

A good place to stop for a drink might be the Bryant Park Cafe on 42 st %26amp; 6th ave.

Thanks for all the wonderful tips and suggestions. I sure wish we were coming for more than just the 3 days. Less then a week to go! Can%26#39;t wait :) The weather forecast still not looking to good, be we can deal with it
