Some help with our plan please.

Here is what I know:

DD (19) and I are traveling to NYC in August.

Flying into LaGuardia (I think)

Staying 3 nights at Radio City Apartments

Planning on seeing Grease on 1 night

1st time to NYC for dd (I haven%26#39;t been since 1980%26#39;s)

What I would like help with:

1) Best transportation from airport to RCA and approx cost

2)Should we go ahead and plan to see another show while we are in NYC (we aren%26#39;t the party types and dd is a dance major ) or

3)Plan a nice dinner out (if so where would you recommend)

4)General dining recommendations near RCA

Thanks in advance for any help.

Some help with our plan please.

Before everyone here starts responding, what%26#39;s your budget?

Some help with our plan please.

1) Best transportation - taxi, approx $35.00 %26amp; tip, give or take.

2) I would see another show, or if your daughter is a dance major, check some dance venue (although summer is not a great time for this)

http://www.ny.com/dance/venues.html

3) Agree, what%26#39;s your budget.

4) General dining - any particular type of food. Location is great and lots of places within walking distance, especially on 9th Avenue.

1) Taxi or car service for ~ $30-35. Either stand in line and wait for an official yellow cab (NO rides from anyone else) or reserve a car service. I like limores.net but a taxi is fine.

2)Doesn%26#39;t say where you%26#39;re from, but I%26#39;d go for the show. You can have a nice dinner anyway but you can%26#39;t see a Broadway show anywhere else.

4) Since it sounds like you%26#39;re on a budget, I%26#39;d say forget about eating breakfast out. You%26#39;ll have a small kitchen at RCA. Get some cereal and milk or yogurt or whatever you like to have and have breakfast in or on the run. There%26#39;s an Au Bon Pain nearby (look on menupages.com I think it%26#39;s on 6th ave. %26amp; 47-48 st) for bread, rolls etc. If you do want a cooked breakfast, I think Evergreen is the best nearby option

menupages.com/restaurantdetails.asp鈥?/a>

You won%26#39;t likely be near the hotel for lunch. Eat pizza, a deli sandwich etc. wherever you are. Try to make a stop at the Shake Shack for a burger.

If you are near the hotel for lunch during a weekday, Utsav is Indian and has a great buffet lunch for about $15/person (all you can eat). If you%26#39;ve never tasted Indian food it%26#39;s a great way to try it

For dinner, Maria Pia is nearby (Italian) and has a $25 prix fixe 3 course meal.

Akdeniz is Turkish and has a $19.95 prix fixe

Breeze is Thai/French and fun.

Natanya, if your daughter is a dance major I would definitely try for eithre a dance perfromance, or another show. If you are downtown (as you probably will be) , just stop by the TKTS booth at John and Water Streets and see what they have available for that night.

Since you are only coming for 3 nights and assuming you won%26#39;t have alot of bags and on a budget I would suggest for transportation from either LGA or JFK the New York Airport Service which is a very comfortable bus service that will take you round-trip for only $21. They will either transfer you to a hotel shuttle at Grand Central that will take you to any of the hotel or RCA or if you get off at the last stop at Port Authority (42nd and 8th) and it%26#39;s about a 10 minute walk from there to RCA and you can take the ';scenic route'; right through Times Square to RCA. The whole trip usually doesn%26#39;t take more than 45 minutes to an hour each way with traffic, so if you want to save money on tranportation to and from the airport this is a good option. Look for a sign outside the baggage area with the New York Airport Service prices on it and there is a person in that will sell you the tickets. I use it every time I fly and love it.

I ran down to Backstage deli which is next door and they have quite a lot... ordered an omelet, muffin, bagel. Really cheap and quite good. You can take it to your room and make tea or coffee yourself. Or grab a yogurt, gatorade, smoothie or whatever at the deli. They are super nice and will give you everything you need.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I am leaning toward a second show. We travel a good bit and have eaten at some fantastic places and like someone said you can eat at great restaurants anywhere.

I am leaning toward the Jersey Boys ( I love the Four Seasons and dd is into 50-60%26#39;s music, etc) Do you think I might be able to pick up tickets for this show in Aug. in the city or should we go ahead and buy them in advance? I know it is a hot show. Or just take our chances on what shows may be available (what kind of prices are we talking if we wait until the day of the show).

As to budget - don%26#39;t really have one set. It will depend on prices of the shows. I figure at least $160-250 for Grease. I am wondering though about seats. What rows, etc are good but not outrageously expensive. The prices of Grease are listed as $71.50 - $201 with the median being around $111. So I am figuring the $111 should get us good seats, but any suggestions on rows, location, etc. The show is at the Brooks Atkinson.

Since we have now ruled out a big dinner (but Breezes sounds good we love Thai)- where are some local choices that we really should try. For example pizza, bagels, deli sandwiches and of course cheesecake. I remember when I was in NY during college we went to this little Irish pub and had the most amazing deli sandwiches - but I have no idea where it was so might have to find another.

Boy, this has gone on. Thanks again for all the help.

If you can%26#39;t get tix to Jersey Boys - or want to squeeze in a 3rd show - I highly recommend ';Hairspray';.

Fun, upbeat show with %26#39;60s ';girl group'; style music. The plot is about racial integration and the perserverance of an ';ugly duckling'; girl at a fictional ';American Bandstand';-type show in Baltimore, so there%26#39;s lots of dancing. There is one risque number about teens ';doing it'; - FYI.

I was just there this last weekend 6-8th and tried to get into Jersey Boys and it was sold out for about 3 months. If you wait till you get there you can go to the ticket counter at the Marriot Marquee and see what tickets are free for the shows and you can get them for half price.

We stayed at the Radio City Apts. Don%26#39;t expect much and tell them you don%26#39;t want a room on the second floor because you will freeze to death. We stayed there and we froze even with a heater in our room.

ditto the sentiment with Wicked. I%26#39;ve seen it 4 times! Hairspray is just fun and I listen to the soundtrack often. Can%26#39;t help but tap your feet and sing......I actually enjoy it more than Grease.

Hale and Hearty soup across the street from RCA is good if you need something quick. Also got breakfast stuff from Backstage deli next door. Your daughter might enjoy Ellens Stardust Diner where the waiters/waitresses sing. My college age kids loved it.
