How to see Statue of Liberty?

We are going to NYC in July and wanted to visit the statue. How do we get there? We are driving so we need to know what to do with our cars and everything. We are travelling 2 familes with 5 kids altogether.

Thanks

How to see Statue of Liberty?

Are you staying in New York for a few days, or are you just passing through and want to see the statue? If the former, your cars will be parked somewhere anyway, so it doesn%26#39;t really matter.

If you%26#39;re just driving past New York and want to take a detour to see the statue, it%26#39;s best not even to come into the city at all. Instead, go to Liberty State Park in New Jersey, where you can park your cars, and take the ferries from there. There is no parking for the statue in New York itself. There are some garages in the area, but if you don%26#39;t have to drive into the city, you shouldn%26#39;t.

Here%26#39;s the official page with more info:

How to see Statue of Liberty?

Is this a day trip or are you staying in the City or elsewhere?

have you done any basic research on the SOL?

Go to nps.gov/stli - this is the National Park Service site on the SOL - gives you all the info you%26#39;ll need.

As for your cars - I%26#39;m sure one or two of my esteemed colleagues on this Forum will be happy to tell you what to do with them!

If you%26#39;re not staying in Manhattan, I%26#39;d go to Liberty State park in New Jersey, park there and get the ferry from the NJ side. The ferry you take stops at Ellis Island first which is fantastic. From there after your visit to Ellis Island, you get the ferry to the Statue. You can only go INSIDE the statue with a special pass. YOu either book in advance for this pass or take your chances that they%26#39;ll be available when you arrive, unlikely for a group of your size. If you don%26#39;t get to go inside, just walking around the outside of the Statue is not that exciting for most people.

If you%26#39;re staying in Manhattan or want to be in Manhattan, you can go to nycgarages.com and look for places to park downtown near the ferry terminal.

We are staying at La Guardia airport for an early flight out the next morning so we figured, the day before our flight we%26#39;d get into New York early and do some sightseeing. I%26#39;m thinking maybe the Central Park Zoo is a better idea. Seems like its too much trouble to get to see SOL.

so i take it that you decided to stay at the clarion and leave your cars there when you fly out the next day?

as a poster stated earlier, there are parking garages that you can use to park during the day and use the subway / bus / walk to see the SOL. in addition to the garage service already recommended, try iconparking.com. if you click on greenwich village section, one of your selections will be a parking garage on Hudson and W Houston. it is probably the cheapest garage with rates running around $12. or so for the time it would take for you to take the Staten Island Ferry out and past the SOL. then once you reach Staten Island, you simply get back on the ferry to return to manhattan. although you dont actually stop at the Statue, you pass close enough to see it clearly and you also get to see a view of the skyline from the water. a good thing about this is that the ride over and back is free. with as many people in your party, this is a great thing to do as you will save $ and still have a great time. after getting off the ferry, you can walk through the financial district and even see ground zero. of course, you will all have to take the subway for a short distance, but this too will be a fun thing for you all to do if you havent done it before.

just wondering, have you taken any time to read through postings and / or trip reports on this forum? if not, do so there are so many different things you can do for your one day stop over before your flight. should you decide to do central park, again you will probably have to drive in (with so many people 2 cars?) and park to do anything.

anything is possible, but it will take a bit of research on your part to figure out what you want to do. since your trip isnt until july, you have plenty of time to read posts here and to ask more questions that will help you see and do what you want. if you need any help with directions, recommendations, just ask. there are plenty of people here who will help, but we need to know a bit more about your thoughts.................
