You will get better responses if you help us by giving a price range in US$. No hostels around that area, most are in chelsea or way uptown, and none are in ';great'; areas, but most are in safe ones.

Thanks!

Our budget is hopefully between $40.00 to $60.00USD each.

How far is Chelsey from 28th and Madison? How can I find Chelsea in the maps with street numbers?

thanks so much for your help!

You%26#39;re shocked that hotels are more expensive here than in Canada??? I%26#39;m shocked you%26#39;d think hotel prices would be the same as home.

28th %26amp; Madison is considered Murray Hill which is the east 20%26#39;s-30%26#39;s. The area known as Gramercy (east teens -20%26#39;s) is also close. Chelsea is the WEST teens-20%26#39;s.

There are a lot of cheaper hotels near 28th %26amp; Madison but they mostly get terrible reviews (Gershwin, Thirty Thirty, Marcel) and/or they will not fit the budget you describe. I%26#39;m curious to know why this location?

The Hotel Grand Union is one in the area that%26#39;s ';ok'; but rooms are now around $150-160 plus tax even there. The Park South is a very nice hotel in the area and is very affordable in relative terms, but will still be more than your budget. (check prices on quikbook.com)

I don%26#39;t know when you%26#39;re coming, but prices fluctuate greatly. If you%26#39;re flexible, I%26#39;d suggest waiting til July/August when prices drop. But you also have to be careful about making sure you have adequate air conditioning at that time of year.

The Big Apple Hostel seems to get rave reviews but that%26#39;s not in the area you describe. Murray Hill East Suites is in the right location and you%26#39;d have an apt. with a kitchen that could cut down on cost of food.

Depending on how long you%26#39;re staying, you might consider one of the women%26#39;s residences which are very inexpensive.
