4TH of July

Took alot of differnet ';advisor%26#39;s'; advice and decided to fly to New York and not drive! We (husband, 8 yr. old daughter and myself) will be arriving via Jet Blue (got r.t. for $76 total per person!!!) on the 4th of July (noon-ish)at JFK. We are staying at the Salisbury Hotel (57th Street between 5th/6th Street). I have a few questions:

1. Since we are flying in on a ';Holiday';, will all forms of transportation be operational and using a ';normal'; schedule? Also, we are flying back home on a Saturday...are there different transportation schedules for weekends?

2. Will we find that attractions/shows are closed in manhatten?

3. If we decide not to use a taxi from the airport to our hotel....how exactly would we get to our hotel (I do know NOT to use the Super Shuttle!)?

4. Where are firewords launched from on the 4th of July? Where would be the best place to view them from?

AS ALWAYS....THANK YOU!

4TH of July

All forms of transportation will be operational. Take the JFK AirTrain from the jetBlue terminal to the Jamaica station where you%26#39;ll get the E train to 53rd Street and 5th Avenue.

The Air Train will be running on a regular schedule.

The E train may be on a Sunday schedule which means it will run every 12 minutes instead of every 8 minutes.

I don%26#39;t think attractions and shows will be closed, I think it will be a busy time for them.

Fireworks are launched on the East River. You can watch the fireworks for free from the FDR Drive which is closed to traffic. For a nominal cost you can watch the fireworks on Roosevelt Island. For a larger sum of money you can book a fireworks dinner cruise on NY Waterway or one of many others.

4TH of July

1) The form you would want, a taxi will be fine.

2) No

3) Get the AirTrain at JFK to Sutphin Blvd./Jamaica in Queens where you%26#39;ll transfer to the E train subway. Take the E train to Manhattan and get out at 7th ave %26amp; 53 st. (I think this stop is closer to the Salisbury which is b/w 6th %26amp; 7th than the stop at 5th ave. mentioned by MoreFFmiles) Walk 3 blocks north (to 57 st) and a half block heading east to the hotel.

4) Info from last year on where they are

jimsdeli.com/events/4th-of-july/default.htm

Lots of previous posts on best place for viewing. I%26#39;d say

%26gt;from a boat in the east river or near the Statue of Liberty

%26gt;from Roosevelt Island

%26gt;from a hotel room facing the East River

A lot of the Broadway shows are NOT performing on July 4.

Also, some stores close early on that holiday (Century 21 for instance)

Also, Letterman, Conan, etc. tend to take that week off and show reruns so you likely won%26#39;t be able to see any of those shows.
