$1000 for five days?

Hi Again

My friend and I are visiting for five days and wondered if $1000 each will be enough spending money.

We%26#39;ve already booked a helicopter trip and a harbour cruise but we are on a room only basis at the hotel. We%26#39;re not wanting anything really fancy foodwise and plan to go round some bars and night clubs on an evening.

What do you guys think???

$1000 for five days?

Also should mention we%26#39;re not planning on any major shopping - just a few bits and bobs. I just want to get a few cosmetics from Bloomies.

$1000 for five days?

lol depends where your priorities lie....ours were strictly on clubbing/bars with food coming in second. we ate only at cafeteria (which averaged around $100 for three of us per meal, a few high and few low) and our hotel was paid seperately.

as far as bars, we visited over 24 on a three night binge (third night was an early one) and spent a total of $2200 just doing that (well, that includes the taxi fare between any where more than 3 blocks away)

found drinks are crazy expensive, covers if you are going to places that do charge are also crazy (lowest $10 per highest $50 per person) and of course, if you like the place and want to get some strong drinks on your second or third round, of course, a good tip is essential.

seriously though, your average is $200 per day per person is doable (forgo the taxis and do some walking and more subways) but id prefer to have a bit more................

im probably not the best person to answer this question as our weekend was a birthday weekend celebration and is not a usual weekend.

As someone who refuses to go to nightclubs as they are:

1. Way overpriced

2. Filled with tourists and the bridge and tunnel crowd

3. Pretentious

I can not speak about prices here, but at regular bars/pubs you will find drinks quite reasonable, very few, if any, places will charge you a cover you can get away with your budget quite easily.

So tell me, Bobby -- exactly what is so contemptible about us people from Brooklyn and Queens (that is, the ';bridge and tunnel crowd'; you mention), that any self-repecting transplant from Iowa or visitor from abroad should hesitate to spend time in our presence?

Bobby, I have problems spotting the B%26amp;T lot and tourists so I%26#39;d be suprised if Sammy will be put off by these (and she fits one of the categories anyway).

Sammy, you%26#39;ll probably find a few happy hour places if you stay out of midtown. We found the best places around Union Square %26amp; East Village. You might want to check sheckys.com and murphguide.com though as they both have happy hour sections. We were getting 2-for-1 and half price drinks a lot which certainly helped with the budget!

GWB, I do not think of Queens and Brooklyn as B %26amp; T, I%26#39;m talking the hordes from Long Island and Jersey that go to places like Bed and think it%26#39;s somehow a real New TYork experience. I have lived in Queens (Astoria), my girlfriend lives in Brooklyn, and I may end up moving back to either Queens or Brooklyn at some point. No offense intended!!

I should also add, I wouldn%26#39;t go to a night club anywhere, just not my scene.

My point is that you can actually go out relatively cheaply in New York (the person is from the UK, so their pound goes far here) if they stick to bars/pubs where the price of drinks is reasonable and there is not a cover charge.

hehe some funny responses here on this topic........

clubs full of tourists? im thinking my tourist money didnt affect any club owners or bartenders so im not going to comment on that one.

as far as happy hour specials....we did friday night happy hour at a number of bars who advertised specials, but didnt get any two for ones here. im not one to complain about prices in bars or restaurants, so i wont say anymore.

pretentious new yorkers? i didnt find any............

I would say yes and that includes doing some clothes shopping.

If you have a simple breakfast and fast food outllets etc then you are talking roughly spending 拢100.00 per day.

Take a credit card in case of emergencies.
