Trip Report Part 2

Day 4 - December 26th

We headed straight for John鈥檚 Diner (as recommended by Trip Advisor). It was really busy when we got there but we managed to get a table. We both had bacon, eggs, home fries and coffee. For both of us it came to about $12 - we couldn鈥檛 believe how cheap it was and the service was excellent.

We then walked over to The Roosevelt Island tram on 6oth Street. It was about $2 each for a return ticket. It鈥檚 only a 5 minute trip but it was well worth it and was something different to do. After that we headed to Serendipity. They didn鈥檛 open till 11am and we were about 20 minutes early but a queue was already starting to form so we waited to make sure we got a table. I had a frozen hot chocolate and hubby had a frozen peanut butter hot chocolate. They were both gorgeous but we鈥檙e still disagreeing over who鈥檚 was nicest! As my husband has a very sweet tooth we headed over to Dylan鈥檚 candy store which unfortunately we were both very disappointed with and didn鈥榯 stay very long.

Next we went over to Central Park for a horse and carriage ride which cost around $50 with the tip for around 25 minutes. The guide was a really friendly Irishman who chatted to us quite a bit and to our amazement he actually had a pizza delivered to him while on our way around the park! After this we went and just watched people on the ice rink in Central Park - we decided not to risk skating ourselves - didn鈥檛 want to break any bones so early in our holiday! We had q quick look around the Coliseum shopping centre at Columbus Circle then started walking to Times Square stopping for some tasty roasted cashew nuts from one of the street vendors! We found where the web cam was in Times Square so we could wave to my parents from Times Square which they thought was amazing. Then we carried on to Radio City for the Radio City spectacular which we both really enjoyed but don鈥檛 think it鈥檚 something we would go and see again. It was then time to head back to the hotel (via the Caf茅 Metro near our hotel for a slice of pizza)

Day 5 - December 27th

Started with another excellent breakfast at John鈥檚 then wandered over to the Rockefeller Centre and watched people on the ice rink. Then had a really nice ice-cream sundae at Ben %26amp; Jerrys before going up TOTR to see the view during the day. Again, it was really quick getting up to the top and we enjoyed the views as it was a pretty clear day and the dun was out. Then decided to have a look at Bergdorf Goodman and Saks. We liked Saks and I bought myself a little Saks shopping bag. Bergdorf鈥檚 on the other hand, we hated it. Didn鈥檛 like the kind of stuff they were selling and all the assistants looked at us as if we shouldn鈥檛 have been allowed through the doors!. Next we headed off to BB Kings Blues Club near Times Square to see a band my husband likes, The Psychedelic Furs. It was brilliant, it was a great venue (only small) and the band was really good. The food there was also great, we had the pulled pork sandwich and we enjoyed every last bite of it! Would highly recommend the place. It was then back to the hotel, of course stopping off for a slice of pizza at Caf茅 Metro yet again.

Day 6 - December 28th.

We were both still really tired when we woke up so decided to have a lazy morning. We wanted to have a better look around Grand Central Terminal and as it was right next to our hotel we headed over and wandered around all the stalls - some great stuff there and a really nice atmosphere. We were getting hungry now because we鈥檇 skipped breakfast so headed to Junior鈥檚 and had the biggest sandwiches we鈥檇 ever seen - they were gorgeous and we had some more of their delicious pink lemonade. We bought more cheesecake to take away and headed back to our room to relax a bit more before our evening out. We had tickets for a dinner cruise which was leaving from Chelsea Pier so we got a cab there. It took forever (horrendous traffic) but we made it in time. The boat was comfortable and the food was nice but they didn鈥檛 point out any land marks to us so we didn鈥檛 really know what we were seeing some of the time. We stopped by the SOL which was great for a few photos. There was a group of people all stood on deck cheering at this point and we realised that a guy had just proposed to his girlfriend and she had accepted - how romantic!

Trip Report Part 2

Funny description of Bergdorf%26#39;s - know how you feel.

I see a ';food'; theme here - hahaha.

I agree about Dylans - nothing special.

Trip Report Part 2

You%26#39;re right - food was a big part of our trip! It has to be in NYC though doesn%26#39;t it - there%26#39;s so much to choose from!

on to 3...I liked Dylans though, saw it through the eyes of my then 3yr old which helped!!

Great report so far - I love that the carriage driver got pizza delivered to him!!

Pizza? To the carriage?

In NYC, you can get a pizza delivered just about anywhere.

Yep - pizza to the carriage - we were speechless!

It was fantastic!

hi there,

after reading yiur post on trip advisor i wonder if you could give me any insight to new year at times square. Most of the comments i have read have been negative-very crowded, lots of waiting around, lack of public toilets? is this true.

would be very gratefull for any info.

thanks

We loved times square. Yes - it was busy but each sectioned off area had plenty of room to move about. However, if you leave your place then that%26#39;s it - you don%26#39;t get it back. There%26#39;s no toilets I%26#39;m afraid. Despite all the bad reports we really enjoyed it - just be prepared to wrap up and claim your spot very early. We were told you couldnt take in bags, food or drink - this was not the case. We saw loads of people eating, drinking and carrying bags just expect to be searched. We%26#39;d highly recommend Times Square for NYE - even if you only do it once!

hi there,

thanks for your reply. still not quite sure what im going to do yet. What time would you suggest in going to times sqaure on nye?

thanks
