yankee stadium trip

does anyone know of a good hotel near yankee stadium to stay at . trying to be budget minded something within 5-10 miles away will take subway if we have to going on april 27th-28th thanks

yankee stadium trip

There really are no hotels near the stadium and I really wouldn%26#39;t suggest staying near the stadium even if there were.

You can get to the Stadium from midtown Manhattan in about 30 minutes via subway, the D or 4 lines go right to the stadium.

yankee stadium trip

You absolutely do NOT want to stay at a hotel near Yankee Stadium, or indeed anywhere in the Bronx. Plan, as a given, that you will be taking the subway to the stadium, and base your planning around that.

Michalangelo or Sofitel?!?!?

It%26#39;s our 1 year anniversary. We%26#39;re both 28 years old. In New York for 3 nights from July 20th-23rd. I%26#39;m trying to plan the trip of a lifetime as a surprise for her and my mind is SPENT!!!

We%26#39;re seeing Phantom on Friday night, Saturday is open, and then Lion King on Sunday. Prefer walking distance to the theaters and such, a romantic setting with comfortable beds, beautiful lobby, etc.

So, Michaelangelo or Sofitel?

Michalangelo or Sofitel?!?!?

I%26#39;ve never seen the guest rooms at either, but I%26#39;d go with the Michelangelo. Even though it%26#39;s a few short blocks from your theaters, I prefer its location. Nearer to Central Park.

Be sure to read the reviews here on tripadvisor, and the Candid Traveler Photos.

Michalangelo or Sofitel?!?!?

That didn%26#39;t make any sense! What I meant to say was the Michelangelo is a few blocks farther from your shows. Still absolutely walkable, maybe five minutes away.

Anyway, don%26#39;t do anything until NYWhiz chimes in. She offers the best advice on hotels. (That%26#39;s why she%26#39;s the Whiz!)

Thanks! I booked the Michaelangelo just because I was tired of pondering, and it was cheaper. Now it%26#39;s done, and I can relax my poor brain! Hope I don%26#39;t regret going for the cheaper option! (crosses fingers)

You%26#39;ll like the Michelangelo. The only benefit to the Sofitel would have been if you got a high floor with a view. But enjoy the savings and splurge on a nice dinner.

hotels

Hi, Could someone give me some information on the wellington hotel and the new yorker? Just some general info on the condition of the hotels, cleanliness and location!

hotels

I always stay at the Hotel New Yorker. Many New Yorkers don%26#39;t seem to like it, but then how often do native New Yorkers actually STAY in a Hotel? I like it because it is convenient to Penn Station, has a 24 hour diner on the ground floor, so you can grab a bit to eat after a night out drinking. I%26#39;ve always found the rooms neat and clean. In the evening hours, no one gets on the lifts without showing the guard a room key and guests must show ID. I like the joint.

hotels

The Wellington is ';ok'; but very basic in an excellent location near Central Park. The New Yorker is considered by locals to be one of the worst hotels in NYC near Madison Square Garden. Some tourists find it very acceptable. I think you can do better than both of these. These sound like hotels that are included in inexpensive air/hotel packages.

Hiya NYWIZ!

Since most New Yorkers rarely stay in NYC hotels, upon what criteria do they base their opinion that it is one of the ';worst';. I%26#39;ve heard from people on this board for years that the New Yorker is one of the ';worst';, but why do they think so? I am honestly confused.

Cheers,

Dev

I think I might give the New Yorker a miss, it does%26#39;nt sound very nice. I%26#39;ve also looked at the ameritania,what%26#39;s your thoughts on it?

If you really want to get involved with NYC restaurants, I think the best place is Chowhounds, Manhattan board

    http://www.chowhound.com/boards/18

and they have a board for the other boroughs also.

Bettina - I%26#39;m dying to know where else you post/blog.

It would be great if all the regulars here told everyone where else they post and/or blog - who%26#39;s up for this?

    I%26#39;ll go first...

Like Ken suggested, I post frequently on chowhound. The Manhattan Board for sure but also the Outer Boroughs Board, where the very best out of the way places are discovered.

I also post on SeriousEats as well as amateurgourmet, ruhlman, ed levine eats, %26amp; menupages.

Re NYC I post on gothamist and gawker

I also post on several of the NY Times blog spots and several poltical bologs like dailykos

And on travel I post on askanewyorker and fodors - but infrequently.

    OK, who%26#39;s next?

LTT, I%26#39;ve seen you on Askanewyorker.com -- that%26#39;s the site that got me hooked in the first place. Still my favorite, too. It%26#39;s got more of an edge, and it%26#39;s not just for tourist info. Very quirky, and lots of fun. I also post on virtualtourist, though there%26#39;s very little traffic on that site.

It%26#39;s Ask A New Yorker and VT for me too. In fact AANY was where Bettina and I first ';met';, a few years back now when she gave me advice on the UWS. I actually ';met'; NY10025 on VT prior to TA when he also gave terrific advice on the area.

Another blog for gastronomes, dining buffs, epicureans, gourmands, and fans of the restaurant scene (mostly NYC):

QB - I agree - augie had a very funny ';star'; system and the most detailed reviews in the biz.

Here%26#39;s one of my fav%26#39;s - a blog the in time will have visited every MidTown restaurant in existence for lunch - a blog for lunch only - how good does it get?

    http://www.midtownlunch.com/

livetotravel - Excellent!! My spouse has clients all over midtown, so she will surely love that blog!!

Great news for an area that I always consider such a ';dead zone'; for affordable dining. I know that%26#39;s not true, but that%26#39;s always been my impression.

  • Apartments/Universities Summer 2007

Hey! I%26#39;m travelling to New York City on June with my daughter. I promised her that we will spend there 2-3 weeks but now our financial situation has changed. I still want to take her there, but now I%26#39;m worrying about where we will live.

I was wondering if any colleges or universities are renting their dorms for summer? Or are there any other good and a little bit cheaper places to live? We would only need like a studio apartment.

I hope that somebody can answer to me.. Happy Easter!

    Apartments/Universities Summer 2007

NYU does have dorms they rent out (esp to students) but you may be too late. Here%26#39;s a trip report from someone who did that last summer.

    tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g60763-i5-k698283-鈥?/a>

I suggest you look for an apt. situation. What is your budget? You might have a look on vrbo.com (vacation rental by owner)

If your daughter is not too young and you like cats, I%26#39;ve always been curious about a lovely apt. that%26#39;s very inexpensive for what it is but requires you to cat sit. It%26#39;s here

    http://www.vrbo.co

If your daughter is a child (this owner doesn%26#39;t want children) it won%26#39;t work.

Another very good idea is one of the women%26#39;s residences, again depending on your daughter%26#39;s age (some have a minimum age requirement).

Here%26#39;s a previous post with a lot of good info including the websites for the women%26#39;s residences.

    Apartments/Universities Summer 2007

Yes, you were right that we were late wih NYU.

My daughter is 16 and is totally comfortable with cats, but because she is under 18 we can%26#39;t rent that cat sitting apartment.

The Brandon sounded very promising. But can we live there even though we are not attending to any courses or working there? Do they have double rooms?

Then I heard about Leo House. Is it safe and comfortable? Do they have double rooms and TV? How much does it cost?

An apartment might be the way to go. Not sure what kind of budget you%26#39;re talking about, but if www.vrbo.com has things that are too expensive, you could try www.craigslist.org Loads of studio apartments in really great neighborhoods.

The better thing about apartments is that you can save money by eating meals in.

Did you check to see if the West Side YMCA can give you a weekly rate? Also, I know the hostel in my neighborhood has some private rooms (Jazz on the Park) so their other branches might as well. You should certainly, wherever you end up, ask for a price discount for long-term stay.

FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) used to rent out the dorms for summer; that was several years ago. I would email them for more info, since nothing is posted on their site:

    www.fitnyc.edu/aspx/Content.aspx鈥?/a>

Also, their link isn%26#39;t working, but lonelyplanet forums have a list of them, I think. If not, do a search on their United States board:

    http://thorntree.lonelyplanet.com/

I think Brandon house and some of the other women%26#39;s residences do have double rooms. Why not contact them and find out?

    Help?!?!?!

Am I right in thinking that I can get the Airtrain from JFK to Jamaica Station and the %26#39;E%26#39; line down to 5Av 53rd Street. I%26#39;m staying at the Pod Hotel on 51st Street so is that the nearest place to get off?

And at Jamaica Station will I have any trouble finding the E line? I plan to buy a 7 Day Metro Card.

    Thanks

    Help?!?!?!

You are correct about the AirTrain to Jamaica to the E train. But it would be closer to your hotel to get out at the Lexington Ave. stop of the E to go to the Pod. This is the stop before Fifth Ave. coming from Jamaica. At that stop you%26#39;ll be at Lexington %26amp; 53 st %26amp; will be heading south and east to 51 st b/w 2nd %26amp; 3rd.

At Jamaica, I believe you have to go downstairs to find the subway entrance to the E from the AirTrain but it should be marked. The 7 day metro card is fine but you%26#39;ll also need a $5 card for the AirTrain portion which isn%26#39;t included in the regular 7 day metrocard.

    Help?!?!?!

    Thanks for the help nywhiz.
