The Hamptons

My wife and I will be in New York in May and I am thinking of going out to the Hamptons. I cannot however find anything on Hotels, getting to and from or the like. Is it a bit of a residents only place? If anyone has anything to share it would be appreciated. Are we going down the wrong path thinking we can find the fantasy land we see in Sx and the city and other ';reality'; TV shows.

The Hamptons

I live in the vacinity of the Hamptons and I would not suggest you visit. You will need to rent a car, and without traffic it is about a two hour drive. There really is very little out here. Many very fancy houses, usually surrounded by very tall hedges so that you can%26#39;t see the houses. Typical small town shops, restaurants, etc. There is a very small town ';center';, again not worth visiting. The beaches are nice but at that time of the year way too cold.

If you insist on visiting you may want to stop along the way at the Outlet Mall in Riverhead. There are about 100-125 stores here and the prices are very good. To get to the mall you take the Long Island Expressway, commonly referred to as the longest parking lot in the world, to exit 73. Exit 73 is the actual end of the expressway. When you get off the mall is directly on your right, you can%26#39;t miss it. There is also a pretty nice aquarium to visit while in Riverhead. From Manhattan to Riverhead, without traffic, will take you about an hour and twenty minutes.
