Staten Island

Hi, What is there to do at Staten Island, or do most people just reboard for the return trip after seeing SOL???

thanks mrs dj

Staten Island

Staten Island is one of the 5 boroughs (sections) of New York City (along with Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, and Brooklyn).

The Statue of Liberty is on Liberty Island.

Visitors to the Statue of Liberty have the option (at additonal cost) of visiting nearby Ellis Island which has the American Family Immigration History Center.

I think the last post answered your question.I would suggest if you have time and want to see the boroughs of new york city, besides manhattan I would also check out the Bronx for the bronx zoo and the New york yankees.Queens has the home of the mets baseball team and the old worlds fair flushing meadow park.In Brookyln there is plenty to see like the the aquarium in brookyln there are many trendy places to eat and visit.Statan island there is blue heron park and historic Richmond Town museum.Have a great trip!

Thanks to both of you, for your quick reply and great info (as always)

However, some visitors with short itineraries or other interests just take the Staten Island Ferry - the free commmuter ferry - to see the SOL from a reasonable distance. This ferry goes to Staten Island only.

Staten Island is mostly residential. It%26#39;s almost suburban, so if you want to see what%26#39;s there, you def need a map and a more specific plan. There are buses that will take you to the mall, the S.I. Historial Society and zoo.

Staten Island is twice the size of Manhattan, but has only one-third of its population. There are some things to see on Staten Island (the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art is small but nice; the house where Garibaldi lived in exile is interesting if Garibaldi interests you; there are some houses dating back to the 17th C., etc.) but they tend to be scattered, at quite a distance from the ferry, and not easily accessible except by car. Thus, most people who are riding the ferry for fun do indeed just turn around and reboard for Manhattan.

thanks to both queensboulevard %26amp; greenwhiteblue...... what would i do without the ny experts......
