moving to plattsburgh

Hello, we are considering a move to Plattsburgh this summer 2007. We have four small children and are wondering about the school system, the area in general ie is it safe and kid friendly? Also is the community open to new people moving in or would we always be considered outsiders? What is the job market like particularly part time employment? Thanks for any info you may be able to give us.

moving to plattsburgh

Moved here a couple of years ago and absolutely love it.

Schools are generally pretty good. There are several districts to choose from, yet they all have similar test scores, student bodies, and lack of major problems. Peru and Plattsburgh districts are the closest things to a SLC district, but they%26#39;re both smaller and with fewer problem. Area is termendously kid friendly. YMCA and City of Plattsburgh, and SUNY-Plattsburgh all sponsor lots of activities. Lake Champlain is great during the summer. In winter, you%26#39;de better like to get outside to ski, snow shoe, skate, etc....

Almost no crime in city except for drunken college kids, and thats mostly minor noise and vandalism in the area between downtown and campus.

As for newcomers, my family and other new folks have felt very welcome. I had to get used to not being in Texas, but if you join the Y, etc.... you%26#39;ll be right at home.

As for the job market, it%26#39;s a small city. I teach 3/4 time at the local university, but I don%26#39;t know about much else. It would depend on what you%26#39;re looking for. You could sub teach, work at a ski area in the winter, etc.....

Let me know if you need more info.
