When to ask for an upgrade / special requests

Hi guys,

I will be traveling to NYC in 3 weeks and was wondering when the best time to ask for an upgrade on the room / special requests (view of TS etc..) would be?

We are staying at the W Times Square in a ';Spectacular Room'; and would like to be as high as possible with a good view!

When to ask for an upgrade / special requests

I generally email 2 weeks before, requesting they confirm my reservation and any requests I have then - mentioning an anniversary, birthday, first visit etc might help too ;)

When to ask for an upgrade / special requests

I%26#39;d say two weeks ahead-I always call the hotel, ask for the name of the manager and write a personal letter detailing my requests. Not an e mail,an actual letter!Seems to get better results-someone has to get the best rooms,it may as well be you.

I%26#39;m pretty relentless in my e-mail communications with hotels about view and location - I do it from the onset of the e-mails and several times thereafter prior to arrival, and then again at the front desk. I agree about communication with management to whatever degree that it possible.

And, I am shameless in mentioning those never-ending anniversaries, honeymoons, birthdays and ';first'; visits. They work like a charm for upgrades ;-)

I always call the hotel directly when making my reservations and when I make my reservation I put in my request for the type of room I want. Some hotels will honor your request but others won%26#39;t promise anything. From reading this forum, I learned that at some hotels, it%26#39;s ';run of the house'; which basically means that the hotel won%26#39;t guarantee anything. I found that Marriott will take your request and tell you that there are no guarantees. However, when we stayed at the Hilton Times Square, I specifically asked if we could request a room with a view or if it was run of the house. The clerk said we could make a request. We requested a room on a high floor with a view. Not only did we get it but we were upgraded upon check-in. We%26#39;re Hilton Honors members--so I don%26#39;t know if that helped. If you get to the hotel and it is booked solid and you don%26#39;t get the room you want, the next morning go to the front desk and ask if you can be moved that day. Most decent hotels will be willing to do this if there are empty rooms.

Matt 57 another thought join their program, (if you haven%26#39;t already). for free. It will help along with Birthdays etc. I haven%26#39;t stayed friends have, rooms small typical of NY, but in great location. The Blue Finn bar off lobby great for drinks, lunch, people watching. Kiefer Sutherland was having lunch in restaurant one time we were there.

Hubby loves their martini%26#39;s %26amp; lobster club for lunch great.
