Spiderman Week, Five Boro Bike Tour, and Upper West Fest

I notice that during the time I’ll be in New York City the city will be celebrating Spiderman Week. Hmmm. I can’t quite decide if this is serendipitous or not! With New Yorkers and tourists alike scurrying off to the various and sundry Spiderman events, does this mean that the museums and art galleries will be less crowded?! [Yeah, right.] And can I assume that if I find myself lost in Soho or the East Village, I can count on Tobey Maguire coming to my rescue!?

What is definitely serendipitous, however, and which I just found out about this past weekend, is the fact that I’ll be in town for the “Five Boro Bike Tour” on May 6th. It will be exciting to watch all the bikes come up 6th Avenue on Sunday morning. It may not be the Tour de France but it should still be an impressive sight.

What I’m wondering is: how long will streets like 6th Avenue be closed to traffic? I gather the tour starts at 8:00 a.m. in Battery Park and I would expect that most bicyclists will have finished the Manhattan portion of the tour within an hour or so. In other words, I’m working on the assumption that street closures aren’t likely to affect whatever plans I might have for Sunday since the streets that are affected will probably all have re-opened to traffic by 10:00 a.m. at the latest. Moreover, since I’ll be getting around New York by subway and by foot, street closures probably aren’t even an issue at all.

I have also just noticed that the Upper West Fest will be going on while I’m in town [www.upperwestfest.com]. Just when I thought there couldn’t possibly be anything else going on in New York that I could fit into my itinerary, along comes something else to pique my curiosity. I haven’t had a chance yet to peruse the Upper West Fest schedule to determine if there is anything of particular interest to me, but I do know that I’m not going to let myself get distracted from what I already plan on doing. If time permits, and if there is something in the Upper West Fest schedule that appeals to me ......

Anyway, there is definitely no shortage of things to see and do in New York, that’s for sure! No wonder it’s the city that never sleeps; no one could possibly do everything that they might want to do in the space of a mere 12 hours! [Unless the person in question is Spiderman, of course.]

Spiderman Week, Five Boro Bike Tour, and Upper West Fest

And there will probably be lots of other events as well.

So much to see %26amp; do, indeed. I have lived here most of my life and still haven%26#39;t covered it all.

Spiderman Week, Five Boro Bike Tour, and Upper West Fest

I have now had a chance to go over the Upper West Fest schedule and there%26#39;s nothing that leaps out at me as something that I definitely want to see or have to do. If I do get involved in any of the Upper West Fest events it will be more by accident than by design.

Right now my big concern is: what to wear for Spiderman Week!? :-)

I wonder: will my usual threads (so to speak) be O.K.?

LOL. funny!

Seriously, the 5 Boro Bike Tour might affect some street traffic up until noon or so, but then business as usual.

(Hmmm...my Spidey Senses are tingling....I suspect that Spiderman Week could be a trap to lure us into a giant Hollywood marketing ploy!!)
