We finally picked a hotel....thanks to Voyagereuse and NY Whiz...You both are so incredibly helpful and certainly help us NYC visiters enjoy our trips.
We chose the Beekman Towers. We are flying in to JFK. What are our best options getting to the hotel? What would the ';average'; cab ride be?
There are 3 parties.....6 adults, 2 teens (17) and 3 children.
finally a hotel picked, now best way to get there....
If my math is correct, that%26#39;s 11. Your options, three cabs (possibly 2 if you can get a larger minivan type cab) The cab is a set rate of $45 + toll and tip. Budget about $60 for each cab. One thing is that cabs will not have child seats.
Alternatively, you could call a car service and see if they have a large van type vehicle that can accomodate all of you. You could also see if they have car seats
Last option, AirTrain to the subway (Take the E train to 53rd and Lexington. That would be $7.00 each. I know children under 44 inches don%26#39;t have to pay for the subway ($2.00). I honestly don%26#39;t know about the AirTrain (that is $5.00). The Beekman would be maybe a 10 minute walk from the hotel.
finally a hotel picked, now best way to get there....
Thanks BobbyC.
When I say Children, their ages are 12, 10 and 10. Will they need car seats?
No child of any age (including an infant) is required to use a car seat in a taxi or livery car in New York State. Bobby was only suggesting an option if you thought you would like one, which you might have wanted for younger children.
When you say ';3 parties'; are you all travelling together on the same flight? Or are you arriving separately? That would change things greatly.
There%26#39;s no subway right near the Beekman Tower (which is a great hotel!!) If you%26#39;re all flying in at the same time, contact the various car services and get quotes for a minvan for all of you. Compare that to the cost of a taxi which will be ~$60 for up to 5 people and then decide. The usual cos. recommended are

We will all be arriving from the same flight. Where is the closest subway system to Beekman Towers? Also, is there any kid friendly restaurants that aren%26#39;t ridicoulously priced close by Beekman? They are really well behaved children, but they won%26#39;t want anything to fancy but would enjoy a good time.
The closest subway stop is at 53 st %26amp; Lexington where you can get the 6, V or the E. You%26#39;re also not far from Grand Central station (42 st %26amp; Lexington) where there are more lines. But wouldn%26#39;t consider using the train from JFK for your group since it will be $7/person with lots of lugging of cases.
As for eating, there are places in Grand Central station including Junior%26#39;s which is like a deli and famous for their cheesecake. Two Boots is a pizza place in there and closer to the hotel is a good pizza place called Angelo%26#39;s. Mama Mexico is a Mexican not far.
