I%26#39;ve booked my flights and started the hotel hunt and whilst I consider myself reasonably well travelled by the time I%26#39;d heard everyones advice on where they thought I should stay plus read so many reviews on here I felt overwhelmed by it all.
Anyway -I%26#39;ve narrowed my choice down to 3 hotels - not the fanciest I know but the ones which seem to have consistent reviews. They all average about the same price per night (around 拢200/拢220 GBP)
1 - Vincci Avalon
2 - Hampton Inn Times Square - seems a little further out
3 - Hotel Metro - lots of people I know have stayed here - not sure whether it must be one used by the package companies
I just wanted any final opinions on these please - also should I try and book with a site where I can pay the balance up front (I%26#39;m not coming until November 1st) so I can take advantage of the current strong exchange rate?
Final 3 hotel choices - any comments welcome
I forgot to add - I was also considering the Michelangleo which is slightly more expensive (ny whizz recommended) however it does mention it was undergoing renovations. Although these are due to complete August - if they are anything like UK builders they may well over run
Final 3 hotel choices - any comments welcome
I dont have an answer for you, but I find it hard to believe you cant find a better rate. THe about in GBP is around 400 USD. That%26#39;s crazy.
If you pay ';upfront';, be sure you can get a refund if it becomes necessary.
I would do further searching for the hotel.
Sorry i couldnt be of more help.
I%26#39;ve been pricing them on expedia and rooms.com - if you can recommend any better search engines that would be great. Its marathon weekend that weekend so it seems to have bumped prices up.
I agree that those pirces are outrageous unless you mean they%26#39;re dollars rather than pounds or unless you%26#39;re coming in early December. Of your list, there%26#39;s no question that the Hampton Inn Times square is the best location. When you say ';...a little further out'; from WHERE? Certainly not from Times Square. There are better restaurants and better everything near it vs. the other 2.
You should be able to find these hotels for around $220-250 DOLLARS. Look on the Hampton Inn%26#39;s own website.
I%26#39;d also suggest you look on quikbook.com although I don%26#39;t think it generally has the Hampton Inn (it does have the other 2 regularly, but I don%26#39;t love their location).
On the Hamptons site for the dates I want its quoting $409 per night best available rate for 1st to 6th November which works out about 拢200GBP thats for a non smoking king standard room. Cheapest rate is $290 per night but that appears to be a contractor/gvt rate (I wasn%26#39;t sure what that was).
I%26#39;ll check out the other site you mentioned.
What are your dates???
1st Nov for 5 nights departing on the 6th Nov.
Just to throw another one into the mix.
I stayed in the Wingate Inn which is on West 35th Street last December and have already booked for next November!! The dates you mention work out at $400 per night if you book online and pay now. The Wingate is a brand new hotel and is around the corner from Macys. We found it perfect for getting around and the area felt safe walking back after we all went our separate ways shopping.
If you go to their website the picture are exactly what you get. Breakfast is also included which is handy and saves money and time in the mornings. Have a look at the reviews and see what you think.
Enjoy
I%26#39;m sorry I%26#39;m just seeing this for the first time, ruthiebabie. Unfortunately, your problem is the NYC Marathon is Nov. 4 and hotels are filled to overflowing at that time. I see a very good price for the lovely Affinia Gardens hotel on quikbook.com but it%26#39;s non cancelable and requires prepayment. Don%26#39;t know if that appeals to you and it%26#39;s not near Times Square but I think in a much nicer area than #1 %26amp; 3. I also think the Wingate Hotel mentioned above, which is in the same area as those 2 might be nicer and less expensive. Good luck!
I wouldnT stay in Times Square again. Too frenetic and tacky. We stay at the Salisbury which is in a nice part of midtown.
