TAO for 12 y/o birthday dinner

I have received many wonderful suggestions but now I ask for your help again. Making my first trip to NY during June for 12 year old dtr birthday. What about TAO? Good choice? Good food?

I think it could be fun, if your daughter likes Thai food. Take a look at menupages.com, where you can see a sample menu (with mostly outdated prices).

I looked at the menu and I don%26#39;t know... not much on the menu for her I don%26#39;t think. I have reviewed many places and now I think I have confused myself. I know Carmines serves LARGE portions, but if there are 4 of us, (one eats enough for 2), and we LOVE Italian, would that be a good choice? What about great steaks? She loves a good steak (ribeyes, etc.) with final chocolate mousse or soufle.... have any ideas?

TexasNative - check out my list under the topic ';kids restaurants'; that I responded to yesterday. May give you some more ideas.

I hang out at Tao after work, at the bar, so don%26#39;t really think it%26#39;s appropriate for a 12 year old%26#39;s birthday dinner.

Manhattan1, thanks. I agree I agree.... any ideas for good steak?

I like Carmines but remember, it is family dining. This means that an order of chicken parm is really a platter that can easily feed 2-3 people. With only four in your group you would probably order one pasta dish and two meat dishes (at most). Their ice cream desserts are also huge and can easily feed 4 of you.

It%26#39;s pretty new, my mom came to visit a couple of weeks ago and we went to Porterhouse in the Time Warner Center http://www.porterhousenewyork.com/

My mom had the porterhouse and cannot stop raving about it (and she owns a seafood/steak restaurant, so she%26#39;s a tough critic!).

Another option (and you can kill two birds with one stone) is Michael Jordon%26#39;s Steakhouse at Grand Central Station (dinner and tour the station!). The website is

There%26#39;s also Strip House, but think you may run into a similar ';bar scene'; as Tao.

Medic 5,

Thanks for the food portion notes. That will help when we order.

And Manhattan, thanks, the two ideas sound wonderful, may need to try both.
